The Valais is a hiker’s paradise in winter. Its 1000 kilometres of immaculately prepared winter trails invite hikers to leisurely strolls or athletic climbs in an unparalleled setting. With the winter sun as your companion, you can wander through silent snow-covered forests and over magnificent sunny terraces featuring fantastic views. This is as close as you can get to the high peaks and majestic glaciers of the Valais Alps. A steaming cup of schnapps and coffee or hot chocolate welcomes contented hikers in a snug mountain hut at the end of the day.
High above the Val d’Hérens
The winter hiking trail of Artsinol is similar to Val d’Hérens: authentic, natural and a true source of energy and experiences. The marked trail ranges from 2075 and 2145m. Discover an old alpine settlement along the way with its typical buildings such as a cheese dairy, granary and stables. The view to the surrounding mountains (Matterhorn and Dent Blanche) will invigorate you. Named the best village in the Romande in August 2012, Evolène lies in the valley and is one of the most authentic villages in Switzerland. The chairlift from Lannaz- Evolène takes visitors to a restaurant featuring a sunny panoramic terrace in Chemeuille (2150m).
