Tortin Glacier

In winter as in summer, the Mont-Fort is an extremely popular excursion destination. Everyone can reach the summit thanks to the lift system. In fact, from this incredible view point the most beautiful alpine mountains, from the Matterhorn to the Mont-Blanc, reveal themselves before you. The Mont-Fort is one of the best view points in the Alps, which can be reached effortlessly. The cable car from Gentianes to Mont-Fort crosses the Tortin Glacier and in winter you can ski down on a black slope which leads over the glacier. The two main characteristics of the Mont-Fort – Gentianes – Tortin ski run are steepness of its slope and the altitude of its summit (3330m). As opposed to most ski runs, the Mont-Fort one is not prepared mechanically. The slope is too steep to allow this. The preparation is limited to securing the area around the slope after each snowfall. This particularity makes this slope the only one of its kind.
