Salanfe

With a capacity of 40 million cubic metres, this massive dam towers 52m in height and measures 40m in width at its base, with a 608m-long dam wall at its crest. It was commissioned in 1950. Situated at the foot of the Dents-du-Midi range above the Trient Valley, it can be reached in 1½ hour’s walk from the picturesque hamlet of Van, above Salvan - Les Marécottes. The dam’s reservoir forms the man-made Lake Salanfe, whose waters beautifully mirror the surrounding peaks. The dam is a popular destination, known for its superb alpine views and many walking trails.
