Chapel of Notre-Dame du Scex

The chapel of Notre-Dame du Scex is carved in the cliff, 90 meters above the city. The place recalls the hermitage of Saint Amé, a monk of the Abbey who took refuge there in the 7th century. The current chapel dates from the 17th century, although there were several successive sanctuaries before this one. Above, in a central niche, we can perceive a wonderful Virgin and Child of the 13th century. Furthermore, not far from the Chapel, there is the statue that recalls the first hermit Saint-Amé. Since then, thousands of pilgrims, tourists or curious have climbed the 484 steps to try to discover his secret. Finally, writers, poets or even artists have also been seduced by the mystery of the sanctuary.
