Description

Across the Alps into the Aosta Valley

Via Francigena is one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Europe. This long-distance hike leads along an ancient Roman trade route that was documented by Archbishop Sigerich. Switzerland presents itself idyllic and varied along this pilgrimage route. From Le Day there are wonderful views down to Lake Neuchâtel. From here you continue along the idyllic banks of the river La Venoge until you reach the shores of Lake Geneva. The most arduous stages took him across the Alps. Mule trails wind high into the mountains after Martigny and lead you to the Great St. Bernard and the Italian border. The descent into the wild and romantic valley leads you in the footsteps of the Romans along old irrigation channels to the famous town of Aosta.
