If you love the sun, you can’t fail to love the Valais! Why? Simple, really. Our valley, which lies in the middle of 45 four-thousanders, is blessed with 300 days of sun per year. And the mountains are also the reason for the extremely Mediterranean climate we enjoy. For the Bernese and Valais Alps act as a kind of climatic barrier, protecting the Valais from the moisture-laden winds from the north and south. But the plentiful sun-drenched days also always transform our inspiring landscapes into a veritable winter fairytale. Virtually all of our winter-sports areas are more than 1500 metres above sea level. Nine even break the 3000-metre mark. So even at the height of summer you can have fun in the snow high up on our glaciers. And some way off the beaten track in our side valleys and nature parks, there’s a second, unknown side of Valais waiting to be discovered: a wild, rough and mystical world. Experience icy glaciers, crystal-clear mountain lakes and steaming thermal springs – but also the fascination of water. In short: the Valais is a unique natural arena!
