Aletsch Region
The Aletsch Region includes the terraced towns of Riederalp, Bettmeralp, Fiesch and Fiescheralp, as well as Naters-Blatten-Belalp and Mörel-Breiten. The Aletsch Glacier, the longest and mightiest glacier in the Alps, defines this holiday region surrounded by majestic mountain giants. A landscape of extraordinary beauty, the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn Region joined the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 2001.
With a length of 23 kilometers, an average width of 1800 meters and a surface area of approximately 100 square kilometers, the Aletsch Glacier comprises an impressive 27 billion tons of ice. The ice flows from the northern flanks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau to the Valais. The glacier’s water flows through the wild Massa Gorge into the Rhone River.
Halfway between the valley and the heavens are the sun terraces of Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp, Riederalp, and Belalp. Seven aerial cable cars convey the guests from the Rhone Valley to the resorts and up into the hiking paradise of the Aletsch Region, located at approximately 2000 meters above sea level. From here hiking tours lead to such beautiful vantage points as the 2927-meter Eggishorn, offering vistas of the Aletsch and Fiescher glaciers.
In the resort town of Breiten ob Mörel, the guests pamper themselves in the saline pools. Blatten with its typical Valaisian wooden houses has retained its traditions and charm. The idyllic high valley, Goms, with its authentic, ancient villages, invites you to spend your vacations in this scenic paradise. If you are yearning for a trip to the city, travel to nearby Brig, which offers shopping opportunities.

Summer
Summer vacations in the Aletsch Region are spent in a pristine landscape replete with beautiful hiking trails. In the midst of this mountain world is Villa Cassel, an information center operated by “Pro Natura”, the organization devoted to environmental protection. Here nature lovers will find information about the magnificent nature paradise as well as about courses and excursions. From the Riederalp a beautiful mountain trail leads to Villa Cassel and through the Aletsch Forest to the glacier’s ice tongue.
Winter
In the vast Aletsch skiing area (Riederalp, Bettmeralp und Fiescheralp) mountain trains and lifts let you access 99 kilometers of runs at a height of up to 3100 meters. In addition, there are extensive winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails and Nordic tracks. A delicious raclette or a fondue, accompanied by a glass of Valaisian white wine, rounds out a day of fun in the snow.
