Living traditions in the Valais

The Valais is not an artificially created leisure park. In fact it is a homeland for people who still actively shape the area between North and South to this day with their enjoyment of traditions as vibrant today as they ever were. There is a fascinating contrast between mysticism and modernity. As well as the “Witches’ Descents” on ski slopes, colourful Alpine ascents and markets, you can enjoy a visit to a spectacular but bloodless cow fight: the cows are crowned as queens and treated with the appropriate respect and love. Another highlight is the Tschäggättä in the Lötschen valley: a mysterious, ghostly carnival.
