The Langgletscher

Only in a few places in the Alps is a glacier forefield as easily accessible as it is in the Lötschental where the glacier forefield of the Langgletscher has even been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Theme trail & nature path „see & understand“
Landscapes do not stay the same forever - they are created and change over the course of time with the effects of Mother Nature and Man. Along a total of 23 stations, the nature trail tells the history of the formation of this impressive mountain landscape in the forefield of the Langgletscher. There are three routes to choose from.

Routes:
  • Trail A: Stations 1-23, length 13 km, altitude difference 713 m, hiking time 4 hrs 45 min. This trail can also be hiked over 2 days.
  • Trail B: Stations 1-14 and 19-23, length 10.4 km, altitude difference 460 m, hiking time 3 hrs 30 min.
  • Trail C: Stations 1-14 and return along the same route, length 8.4 km, altitude difference 300m, hiking time 2 hrs 45 min.
